The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

What book do you think of when you think back to your childhood?  I can think of a couple and this book is definitely one of them! The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great book for children ages two and up. This book goes through the life cycle of an insect's life while teaching the concept of counting, the days of the week, and the consumption of healthy/unhealthy foods. Parents can focus on the need to eat healthy and in moderation to kids as a subtopic from reading this book. This book is also very interactive for children. They can stick their fingers through the holes in the fruits on each page and they can count along as the caterpillar eats different foods on each page. By encouraging the kids to count they will slowly be able to associate the spoken number with the quantity. Some editions you can purchase come with a caterpillar soft toy, which can be useful as an additional resource to explain the story and to make it even more interactive for your children. Below is a cute idea that would be fun for you and your children to do together that will incorporate the story into a yummy treat!
Happy Reading!
