Book Review: Harold and the Purple Crayon

Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson is a classic children's book that many of us know and love, originally published in 1955.
Picture
Harold is a curious four-year-old boy who, with his purple crayon, has the power to create a world of his own simply by drawing it.

Harold wants to go for a walk in the moonlight, but there is no moon, so he draws one. He has nowhere to walk, so he draws a path. He has many adventures looking for his room, and in the end he draws his own house and bed goes to sleep.

The author has written numerous sequels to this beloved classic, including Harold's Trip to the Sky (1957), Harold's Circus (1959), Harold Rocks Out (1967), and many more.

Activity:
Ask your child what they would draw if they had a magic purple crayon. Ask them what they would do to make their neighborhood, city, state, or world better if they had a magic purple crayon. Then, invite them to make their own purple crayon adventure book, featuring themselves as the hero or heroine!
